“Starting something new as an adult, such as dance, can make you feel vulnerable, but the upside is this beautiful new experience, life skill, and many diverse friends you meet along the way.”

Jennifer Deutrom

Premier Tier Instructor
Specialties: Swing, Lindy Hop
Dances Taught: Swing, Lindy Hop, Salsa, Bachata, Country

Jennifer grew up in South Mississippi and was always surrounded by music, singing, and dancing in her household and school. Her parents, adorably, still remind her of the day they won first place in the local sock-hop swing dance competition.

An artist since childhood, she studied visual arts in college. Upon receiving her BFA, she moved to Austin and worked in design and animation for many years. After long days of working at her computer, she yearned to dance and move again and thus, started her study of social dancing. She joined the Go Dance Salsa Team and fell in love. She entered the teacher training program in early 2019 and continually trains every week.

Since Jennifer's partner dancing journey started later in life, she can relate to the beginner adult dancer and the challenges they may face. Jennifer feels dancing can highlight a new unexpected side of oneself. “Country and Swing make me feel emotionally connected to my past and home, while Salsa kindles a wonderful creativity, passion, and confidence.” Jennifer's goal is to patiently guide her students in this learning process and have a blast along the way!

Fun Fact: Off the dance floor, Jennifer loves traveling, creating photography projects with her husband, relaxing at Barton Springs, and almost always has a few DIY creative projects in the works.
